The certification for this program is unique in that it is a self-certification program that requires specific supporting documentation to be uploaded to an online repository on the SBA website. The uploaded documentation includes a signed verification stating all documents and statements are true and accurate. The information in the repository must be verified by contracting officers prior to awarding a WOSB or EDWOSB contract to a company.

In addition to self-certification, the SBA does recognize qualified 8(a) Certified WOSBs along with a few third party certifiers recently approved in accordance with the new rule and listed on their WOSB webpage . Third party certification organizations do charge fees for their service. However, if a company has been certified WOSB or EDWOSB through one of these organizations, the verification process is expedited for contracting officers.
