Minority Owned Business (MOB) and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certifications
Minority owned small businesses are encouraged by US Federal Agencies to certify under programs that have mandated goals (i.e. 8(a)BD, DBE, etc.).
Private sector corporations along with various State and Municipal Governments may require Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certifications. Typically, requirements will be spelled out on their websites wherever they provide specific information on “Doing Business With Us” or “Contracting With Us”. Some larger municipalities in various states administer their own MBE certification programs.
In addition, the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSD) offers MBE certification through their regional affiliate offices for a fee. The NMSD MBE is recognized by various companies in the private sector as well as some State and Municipal Government agencies.
